We use a Noritsu film scanner. For special projects and custom scans, we use an Epson flatbed scanners and Epson Fastfoto scanners.
Our Noritsu film scanners produce high-resolution JPEG files. The important specification of your scan is the pixel dimensions (pixel count), rather than the number of megabytes shown by a particular program.
For example, a scan may be approximately 18 MB when originally produced by the scanner. When that same image is opened, processed, exported, or saved by another application, the JPEG may be compressed differently. As a result, the resulting file can be smaller or larger—even though the image has exactly the same pixel dimensions.
There is also a difference between file size and image size:
- Pixel dimensions: The number of pixels in the image—for example, 5,000 × 7,500 pixels. This determines the actual resolution of the scan.
- File size: The amount of computer storage the JPEG occupies, such as 12 MB, 18 MB, or 25 MB. JPEG compression, metadata, and the software used to save the file can all affect this number.
Different programs may also display or calculate file sizes differently. For example, Windows may report the size using one convention while Photoshop displays another. This can make the numbers appear slightly different even when you’re looking at the same file.
Most importantly, megabytes are not a measurement of image resolution. Two JPEG files can have the exact same pixel dimensions but different file sizes because they have been compressed differently.
Therefore, when evaluating the resolution of a scan, the pixel dimensions are the meaningful specification, not simply the MB number displayed by a particular program.
Your original scan is not necessarily lower resolution simply because another program reports a smaller MB figure.
Push and pull refer to the process of over-developing film and under-developing it, respectively (usually to compensate for exposure during shooting).

Turnaround times are hard to predict. However, if your order contains only C-41 film and is scanned on the Noritsu, our turnaround time is about 1-4 business days.
Yes! The easiest way for us to set that up is for you to send us examples of your image style so we can reference back to them. It usually takes a few rolls of film for us to figure out how you like your profile. The more feedback from you the easier it is for us to get it right for you.
If you need a rush order just ask. We will try our hardest to get your order finished as quickly as possible. We do not charge a rush fee, however we cannot guarantee rush orders will be done at time requested.
